2017 Southwestern Invitational Final Results
Senior Rico Hoey, junior Sean Crocker and freshman Cheng Jin turned in top 11 performances to lead the No. 4 USC men's golf team to second place at the Southwestern Invitational at the North Ranch C.C. on Tuesday (Feb. 28).
USC secured its fourth top 2 finish in a row with a combined 5-under 859 (289-282-288) as host Pepperdine posted a wire-to-wire win at 21-under 843 (275-281-287).
Hoey tied for fifth at 6-under 210 (67-68-73) and was in the hunt for his third win this year before a late stumble on 18. Still, his finish marked his fifth consecutive top 9 effort.
Crocker, who had four birdies and an eagle today, finished his final 36 holes at 5-under to take seventh at 4-under 212 (73-69-72) for his fourth top 10 and sixth top 16 in as many starts. Freshman Cheng, who had five birdies today, tied for 11th at 1-under 215 (73-72-70) for his season-best finish and second in the top 20.
Senior David Kim, one of five Trojans playing individually, turned in his best effort as a Trojan and tied for 28th at 6-over 222 (80-72-70) while sophomore Justin Suh (74-73-76), junior Jonah Texeira (74-74-75) and senior Andrew Levitt (75-74-74), another individual entry, all tied for 34th at 7-over 223.
Freshman Kyle Suppa tied for 48th at 10-over 226 (73-79-74), senior Danny Ochoa tied for 55th at 13-over 229 (73-78-78) and freshman Ing Ratanavadi was 80th at 32-over 248 (80-86-82).
