USC women's lacrosse came out strong in its first game of the 2017 season, delivering a 20-2 win over Saint Mary's.

The No. 4 Trojans built up a 14-1 halftime lead behind a Michaela Michael hat trick. Michael finished the game with three goals, 12 draw controls and an assist. The senior was one of 12 Trojans to score against the Gaels, whom USC has now defeated in all five meetings by a cumulative score of 95-24.
The resounding victory was USC's 18th straight at home and its second straight win in a season opener.
The Trojans hope to take their momentum into their next matchup, a Saturday clash with No. 9 Northwestern. That game kicks off at noon at McAlister Field.
