Meet Austin Jackson
October 25, 2017 | Football, USC Ripsit Blog, Features
The freshman OT returns home this weekend to face ASU in Tempe.
Position: OT
Class: Freshman
Size: 6-foot-6, 290 lbs.
Age: 18
High School (Hometown): North Canyon (Phoenix)
Game: Jackson is the prototypical offensive tackle with ideal size and athleticism. The high school track star has great feet, which will help him keep up with all the undersized speed rushers in college. And, he has a frame to comfortably add weight, so he can bulk up as he matures and pursues an NFL career. With Chuma Edoga and Toa Lobendahn battling injuries this season, Jackson has gotten valuable experience as a freshman, rotating in with Clayton Johnston.
Prep Career: Jackson was a beast on both sides of the ball, earning 2016 Prep Star All-American Dream Team, USA Today All-USA second team, Max Preps All-American second team, Tacoma News Tribune Western 100, Orange County Register Fab 15 first team and USA Today All-Arizona first team as a senior OT and DE. He racked up 80 tackles, 29 TFL, 4 sacks, 1 deflection, 1 fumble recovery, 1 blocked punt and 1 blocked field goal on defense in 2016.
USC OL coach Neil Callaway on Jackson: "He's made a lot of progress. He's still learning and growing, but he's played a good bit lately and done an admirable job. I've been pleased with his progress and I'm super glad he's here."
Fun Fact: Jackson set his high school records in shot put and discus, and ran an impressive anchor leg in the 4x100 relay.
