On National Coming Out Day, members of USC Athletics got together to show their commitment to supporting members of the LGBTQ community.
USC student-athletes, coaches and other staff members gathered to show their support and to celebrate USC's recent achievements in LGBTQ inclusivity. USC was awarded the Gold Medallion from LGBT SportSafe. USC earned the medallion by providing inclusion training for coaches and administrations and implementing policies to include protections for LGBTQ student-athletes and coaches.
In addition to earning the gold medallion from LGBT SportSafe, USC was recently one of two schools in the nation to earn a perfect score on the Athlete Ally Athletic Equality Index. The AEI gave USC full marks in the following categories: nondiscrimination policy, accessible resources, LGBTQ-inclusive fan code of conduct, following NCAA policy for transgender inclusion, having an LGBTQ student-athlete group, having an outspoken or allied staff, collaboration with a campus group and having a pro-LGBTQ campaign/statement.
