Position: DT
Class: Freshman
Size: 6-foot-4, 320 lbs.
Age: 18
High School (Hometown): Westview (OR), (Anchorage, AK)
Game: Pili is an incredibly impressive athlete. At his remarkable size, he is extremely agile, even showing off some gymnastics ability. While he has waited his turn behind more seasoned players, Pili broke through on Saturday against Oregon State, earning considerable playing time. He made three tackles in his debut.
Prep Career: Pili spent the first three years of high school at Dimond High in Anchorage before transferring to Westview in Portland. As a senior defensive end, he made the 2016 Tacoma News Tribune Western 100 and Tacoma News Tribune Northwest Nuggets Best of the Rest. He also was on the track team (with bests of 46-8.25 in the shot put and 135-5 in the discus throw and placing fifth in the shot and eighth in the discus in the 2016 state 4A championships) and wrestling team (placing fifth and second in the 285-pound division at the state 4A championships as a sophomore and junior) at Dimond.
USC head coach Clay Helton on Pili: "He's a 320-pound dancing polar bear. He's athletic and I'm so glad that he's with us. To be able to be where he's at at this young of an age — to be that big, that athletic, and picking up the playbook pretty fast — it's a credit to him."
Fun Fact: Despite his imposing frame, Pili is flexible enough to do a back handspring.
