- Freshman RB Vavae Malepeai suffered the first major injury of Fall Camp when he was diagnosed with a broken scapula. He will be out four to six weeks, but surgery is not required.
-
Here is the rest of the injury report per head coach Clay Helton: RB James Toland IV (groin), PK Michael Brown (quad), OT Chuma Edoga (toe) and S Marvell Tell III (hamstring). DL Noah Jefferson (back) had a clean MRI and is seeing a specialist.
- DL Khaliel Rodgers, WR Jalen Greene, RB Justin Davis and OT Chad Wheeler returned to practice after recovering from various ailments.
- The Trojans scrimmaged more today than any other practice, but it was mostly situational. No stats were kept. Helton will wait to assess the quarterbacks until he sees the film. Overall in camp, redshirt freshman Sam Darnold struggled early but has come on late, while redshirt junior Max Browne has been more consistent, according to the head coach.
- The defense continued to impress today as the Pendergast effect takes hold. "Clancy is challenging them, and you see the mix and the match, if you don't do your job, you're out and another guy is going in," said Helton about Pendergast holding his players accountable. "That's the real world. That's real football."
- The Trojans also worked on some special situations like Hail Mary defense and gave PK Matt Boermeester a shot at a game-winner from 45 yards out, which he made.
- Only Helton spoke to the media today, so here is his press conference in its entirety:
