Name: Tynia Gaither
Country: Bahamas
Event: Women's Track 100m and 200m
Like many recent college graduates, Tynia Gaither is spending her first summer in the "real world" traveling the globe. However, Gaither's journey is considerably more focused as she heads to Rio 2016 to compete in her first Olympic Games.
Gaither, who is best known for her courageous run despite a torn hamstring in the NCAA 4x100m relay in 2015, qualified for the 100m and 200m sprints against the world's fastest women. She won both races at the Bahamian national championships to book her ticket to Brazil.
"I'm so happy to be able to finally put on a show for the Bahamian people, who have always been so supportive and so loving," she said. "My goal right now is to continue to focus on running fast. This is the best I've ever been, but I know I still have so much more room for growth."
While Gaither eventually plans on putting her USC degree to good use as a wedding planner, she is only focused one event right now.
