Last season, Smith-Schuster cemented his position as the next in line in USC's recent lineage of record-breaking wide receivers when he accrued 1,454 total yards on 89 receptions with 10 touchdowns. He averaged 103.9 yards per game, good for 11th-best in the country. Even with a new quarterback at the helm in 2016, no one anticipates the talented wide receiver dropping off any time soon, and for that reason he's been pegged as a preseason First Team All-American and All-Conference member by both Steele and Athlon Sports.
Three Trojans earned recognition on Steele's All-American Second Team, led by do-it-all junior Adoree' Jackson who is on the list as both a cornerback and punt returner. Redshirt senior OL Zach Banner and senior long snapper Zach Smith made the list as well. Sophomore LB Cam Smith, eager to return to the field this fall after sustaining a season-ending knee injury in 2015, made the Third Team.
A similar cast of characters makes up Athlon Sports' All-Pac-12 First Team, with Smith-Schuster, Banner, Smith and Jackson all listed (Jackson as a CB). On the second team, sophomore RB Ronald Jones II, who last season broke the Trojans' freshman rushing record, leads the pack alongside OL Toa Lobendahn, OL Chad Wheeler, CB Iman Marshall and Jackson as a punt returner.
In total, 15 Trojans are listed on Steele's preseason All-Pac-12 first, second, third and fourth teams, while 11 Trojans earned spots on Athlon Sports' first through fourth teams.
