With the Crosstown Cup safely on display in Heritage Hall, USC Athletics has turned its attention to another trophy with even more prestige. The Trojans are currently third in the standings of the annual Learfield Directors' Cup, which ranks the athletic performance of the nation's 289 Division I athletic departments.
In 2015, USC finished third - the university's highest mark since the Directors' Cup originated in 1993. This year, the Trojans are looking to surpass that mark after capturing two national championships in the last semester. Currently in fourth behind Stanford, Ohio State and Michigan, USC boasts the best spring resume of any team on the list, totaling 504.75 points in this season alone with national titles in beach volleyball and women's water polo, while also posting Top 10 finishes in women's golf, women's lacrosse and men's tennis.
The Trojans have 1029 total points, not including top finishes in men's golf and women's rowing, and with opportunities to score more points in men's and women's track & field next week. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports (10 women's and 10 men's). The final standings will be released on Tuesday, June 14.
