For the second straight year, USC sophomore Adoree' Jackson leaped into fifth place at the NCAA Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field, achieving All-American status once again and cementing his place as one of the most exciting and gifted individuals in all of collegiate athletics. Jackson's mark of 25-1.75/7.66m (+1.8) was unfortunately not enough to qualify the dual-sport star for the US Olympic Trials, but remains a remarkable achievement for the 20-year-old most recognized for his career on the football field.
With his finish, Jackson became the first Trojan to score in consecutive seasons in the long jump at the NCAA Championships since Ed Tave in 1983 and 1984.Â
Nick Ponzio also competed in an event final on Wednesday, finishing 12th with a mark of 61-8.25 (18.8m) to earn second-team All-America honors. The action on day one also included sophomore Ricky Morgan Jr., who snagged the last spot in the men's 400m finals with a time of 45.67 in the event's semifinals.Â
