On Wednesday, USC junior All-American Amalie Iuel received the well-deserved honor of 2016 Pac-12 Women's Field Athlete of the Year. The versatile track star won her second Pac-12 heptathlon title this season, scoring the second-most points ever by a Trojan in the Multi-Events Championships and moving from third to second on USC's all-time heptathlon list.
Entering NCAA competition, Iuel is looking to record another successful offseason following her 2015 campaign which included a seventh-place finish in the 400m IH at the NCAA Championships and a second-place finish in the 4x400m relay. This season, Iuel shined in several events for the Trojans, posting a personal record 6-0.50 in the high jump, 56.37 in the 400m IH and 23.41 in the 200m among top personal marks in other heptathlon events.
She sustained an elbow injury in the Pac-12 Championships last weekend but she will now turn her focus to recovery and preparation for competition in the high jump, 400m IH and 4x400m relay in the NCAA Championships. She ranks tied for eighth in the country in the high jump and 11th in the 400m IH. The junior qualified for six events at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds.
