For the second time in two seasons, USC junior heptathlete Amalie Iuel took on seven events in two days and emerged victorious at the Pac-12 Multi-Events Championships. The 2016 Pac-12 Heptathlon Champion won or tied for the lead in five events and finished in the top three in all but one at the competition in Seattle last weekend. Iuel was the only competitor to score over 6,000 points, and her total of 6,011 propelled her from third to second on USC's all-time list, and to seventh all-time in the conference. Iuel's title, along with freshman Lyndsey Lopes' fifth-place finish, give the Trojan women 14 points heading into the 2016 Pac-12 Track & Field Championships.
After finishing in third in 2015, Iuel was intent upon returning to the top of the podium where she stood as champion her freshman season. She leapt out of the gate on day one, tying for the lead in her first event (the 100m HH), winning the next (high jump), and never relinquishing her lead in the competition after that. The junior went on to win the long jump, 800m and 200m en route to her second Pac-12 Title, recording personal records in the high jump, shot put, 200m and 800m.
Lopes recorded a personal best total point score of 5,277 to place fifth, earning USC four total points in the Pac-12 Track & Field Championships.
