"We are very proud of our student-athletes for their accomplishments in the classroom," said Magdi El Shahawy, USC's Senior Associate Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Services. "We have not only seen improvements in our overall GPA's but have also seen the same improvement in our APR scores that measure eligibility and retention for all scholarship student-athletes on each team over a four-year period.

The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally. The scores required to be in the top 10 ranged from 983 to 1,000 depending on the sport. All teams' APR scores will be released on April 20.
"Having four teams receive Public Recognition Awards acknowledging their APR's as among the best in their respective sports nationally is quite an accomplishment," said El Shahawy. "In the soon to be released APR, two-thirds of our teams will meet or exceed their APR scores from last year, and in reviewing our APR scores we see an upward trend. Eighty percent of our teams' single-year APR scores for the past academic year meet or exceed their single-year APR scores four years ago, which should lead to even more improved scores next year."
