On Friday, the Trojans battled down to the wire with the Buffaloes, ultimately protecting their undefeated record thanks to Cynthia Del Core's game-winning goal with 16 seconds on the clock. Caroline de Lyra led the way with a hat trick, her 24th career game with three or more goals, while Michaela Michael added two to help USC clinch the 9-8 win. Tied at eight with a minute to go, the Buffaloes thought they had scored the game-winner when Katie Macleay found the back of the net, but the goal was negated for a dangerous propelling penalty which gave the Trojans possession and the chance to put the game away.
The challenging road weekend continued against Denver on Sunday as the Trojans, led by a Michaela Michael hat trick, topped the Pioneers, 9-6. Sophomore goalie Gussie Johns produced five saves in the Trojans' strong defensive performance which featured 18 Denver turnovers.
The Women of Troy are just four games away from an undefeated regular season, but it won't be an easy road to 17-0 as the No. 6 Trojans must face No. 12 Northwestern and No. 7 Notre Dame on the road this Friday and Monday, respectively. USC first faces Northwestern in Evanston on Friday at 5 p.m. PT, the game will be broadcast on Big Ten Network Plus. The Trojans then take on the Fighting Irish on Monday at 1 p.m. PT, the game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
