Sophomore Sean Crocker turned in a 4-under 68 to grab a share of the lead while leading the No. 4 USC men's golf team to an ascent into first during the second round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate at the Southern Highlands C.C. in Las Vegas, on Tuesday (March 8).
The Trojans moved to first at 4-under 572 (292-280), seven shots ahead of second-place No. 6 Arizona State. No. 11 Texas and No. 12 Florida are tied for third at 5-over.
Crocker followed up his team-best round Monday with a strong effort Tuesday to leave him at 6-under 138 (70-68), tied with Arizona State's Jon Rahm for first. Crocker was 2-over through 7 before squaring his day with an eagle on the par 5 9th hole. He then converted five birdie chances on the back 9, including a stretch of four of five between 13 and 17. He now has seven rounds in the 60s this year.
He will tee off Wednesday in search of his first win this season and fourth top 10, hoping to lead the Trojans to their second win in a row and third victory this year.
Sophomore Jonah Texeira (73-71) and freshman Justin Suh (73-71) are tied for 12th at par 144. Texeira had four birdies on the day, including 18. Suh had three birdies against two bogeys.
Junior Rico Hoey moved to a tie for 21st at 2-over 146 (76-70) after a 2-under day. He opened with nine consecutive pars before three birdies and a bogey on the back 9. Hoey is trying to extend his streak of five straight top 10 finishes.
Senior Andrew Levitt, who is coming off his first collegiate win last week, also rebounded from yesterday and is now tied for 33rd at 4-over 148 (77-71) with a three-birdie day.
Action concludes with a final round Wednesday.
