Bukich was named the Player of the Game in the 1953 Rose Bowl after he came off the bench and threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Al Carmichael for the only points in USC's 7-0 victory over Wisconsin. He was a second round pick in the 1953 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams and then spent 14 years in the league, including winning the 1963 NFL championship with the Chicago Bears.
Nicknamed "Rifle Rudy" because of his arm strength, he was reportedly able to throw a football 100 yards.Â
