After a number of sluggish starts this season, USC head coach Andy Enfield went with a new lineup against the Bears --- inserting freshman guard De'Anthony Melton in place of freshman forward Nick Rakocevic, who has been filling in for the injured Bennie Boatwright. The Trojans came out firing, opening the night on a 6-0 run, and never trailed in the game.
The Trojans' leading scorer this season, Elijah Stewart, led the way again with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting. He hit half of USC's 8 threes in the game. The Bears, meanwhile, sunk 14 threes, including one at the final buzzer, to cut it close.
USC led by as many as 17, but won by a final score of 83-75 after Missouri State did their best to make a comeback. The Trojans secured the win by hitting 17-of-19 FTs.
Jordan McLaughlin was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line to contribute to his 19 points. He also added 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Chimezie Metu followed that up with 13 points and 9 boards. Melton scored 12.
The Trojans, one of six remaining undefeated squads in the nation, now face Wyoming in the title match of the Las Vegas Classic tonight at 8 p.m. The game will air on FS1.
