Position: WR
Class: Junior
Size: 6-foot-4, 220 pounds
Age: 21
Junior College: Long Beach CC
Game: Hampton entered the talented USC receiving corps this season as the unit's tallest member. At 6-foot-4, the junior uses his height to his advantage, dominating one-on-ones with his athletic build. He models his game after NFL giants like Calvin Johnson, aspiring to become a physically imposing threat within the USC offense.
Junior College Career: In two seasons at Long Beach CC, Hampton had 114 receptions for 1,693 yards and 19 touchdowns. He made 2014 Prep Star JUCO All-American and All-Southern California Football Association National Division Central League second team after his sophomore year.
Fall: The junior college transfer spent the majority of Fall Camp adjusting to the speed of play at a Division-I program as well as catching up to his position group peers with regard to the playbook and his understanding of the offensive system. Building on that work, Hampton is now focusing on learning to better use his size to his advantage as a receiver as well as improving his quickness in seeing and seizing the football. In the Trojans' first game against Arkansas State, Hampton caught two passes for 35 yards. He hopes to make an even bigger impact as the season continues.
Coach Sark on Hampton: "I think De'Quan is coming along too. The JuCo guys, it's always interesting because you think they're more mature and they should develop faster, but the reality is this is still their first time being on a Division I football team, so it takes some time."
Here is Hampton with our Grace DeWitt...
