USC alum and current New York Mets first baseman Lucas Duda has been swinging a powerful bat since the All-Star break, hitting nine home runs in the past eight games including a two-run shot last night to lead a sweep of the Washington Nationals. His hot streak has helped launch the Mets into a first-place tie atop the NL East for the first time since 2008.
"The Dude's" nine homers since the break are the most by any player in the league, and it is the first time in team history that a player has hit nine home runs in eight games. He's also only the third player to do so throughout the league in the last decade. For this outstanding performance over the last eight games, the MLB named Duda an NL Co-Player of the Week alongside teammate Noah Syndegaard.
