The USC women's soccer team is off to a solid start in 2015 after upsetting No. 15 Texas Tech on Friday afternoon and nearly defeating top-ranked Florida State on Sunday. The Women of Troy hung in there with the nation's best for 82 minutes before the Seminoles scored in the 83rd to give them a 1-0 victory.
"We had a very good weekend overall. On Friday, we were excellent and today, we were just average," said head coach Keidane McAlpine following Sunday's loss. "Florida State is a very well-coached team that you have to play your best against. We learned a lot about ourselves this weekend and will build from this."
The No. 23 Women of Troy began the 2015 season with a 1-0 victory over the No. 15 Texas Tech Red Raiders courtesy of a goal from freshman Hailey Hite in the 83rd minute off a cross from junior Kayla Mills. The USC women's soccer team returned nine starters from last year's squad that made it to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010, but is also relying on young talent like Hite to contribute in 2015.
Next up for the USC women's soccer team is a trip to UC Riverside on Friday at 7:00p.m. PT.
