- USC head coach Steve Sarkisian officially announced that freshman QB Ricky Town will transfer. He did not elaborate much more on the subject, but you can watch the press conference video below.
- QB Cody Kessler on Town: "He's a good friend of ours. We enjoyed him in the quarterback room. Really good kid. If he just didn't feel like this was the best place for him, I wish him nothing but the best."
- Town's departure means freshman Sam Darnold has a stranglehold on the third-string job as Jalen Greene is thriving at receiver. "He's playing good football," said Sarkisian about Darnold. "He has some really cool flashes where he's making plays, and then he has some plays where we have to coach him and that's our job."
- The Trojans were boosted by the return of RB Justin Davis from a hamstring injury. "It feels so great [to be back]," said the always smiling junior. "I have been itching to get out on the field."
- The "finish challenge" today was two-point conversions. Cody Kessler hit freshman RB Dominic Davis to give the offense the lead, but the defense responded with three consecutive stops, including a pass broken up and a pass intercepted by sophomore CB Jonathan Lockett.
- Technically, interceptions don't count on two-point plays, but the young corner made a veteran move to turn away the offense. "That was a great play," Kessler gave credit to Lockett for covering two men at once. "In a situation like that, he played both [receivers], and the routes kind of intersected. He played it exactly how offenses don't want him to play it."
- Sarkisian on Lockett: "We probably had to play him a little too soon a year ago as a true freshman. I would have loved to redshirt him and let him develop. I think he gained some experience and confidence that is showing now."
- Placekicker is perhaps the most important position battle of Fall Camp, and Alex Wood had a leg up today. The coaches challenged Wood and Matt Boermeester from distance, and Wood showed more consistency. "I thought Woody was good again. You can't take that away from him. He's doing a great job," said Sarkisian about the walk-on.
- Monday is another two-a-day with the second practice expected to feature the most scrimmage action so far in Fall Camp. Here is Sarkisian today:
