The U.S. men's water polo team is headed to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio thanks in part to two Trojans' performances at the 2015 Pan American Games that also resulted in a gold medal for the country. Two Women of Troy aided the U.S. women's water polo team to gold, but the 2015 Pan Am Games did not count as an Olympics qualifier for the women.
NCAA champions Kami Craig (2010) and Kaleigh Gilchrist (2013) represented the Women of Troy on the U.S. national team that went undefeated in the Pan American Games, eventually defeating host country Canada to earn the gold medal.
The men's national team didn't have to win the Pan American Games to secure its qualification as it earned its Olympic bid in the semifinal round defeat over Canada. However, the men, aided by current USC goalie McQuin Baron and Trojan water polo legend Nikola Vavic, did go on to win a gold medal too after beating Brazil in the finals.
