USC is aiming to compete in postseason play for the first time since 2005. To earn that opportunity, the Trojans need to perform well against a Sun Devil team that sits just in front of USC in the Pac-12 standings. Both teams are batting .294 on the year and are looking to position themselves well for the CWS selection committee.
Sunday's game will celebrate Dante Flores, Omar Cotto Lozada, Angelo La Bruna and Garrett Stubbs, four Trojan seniors who patiently saw the program through several frustrating years, and now get to enjoy the team's success in their final seasons. In Stubbs and Flores' first seasons at USC, the team finished with a 23-32 overall record and a 7-21 performance in Pac-12 play. The two seniors have led the Trojan turnaround from opposite ends of the diamond this year, ranking second and third overall on the team in batting average (.335 and .312 respectively) and hitting five home runs combined.
