USC sand volleyball became the first team ever to sweep the AVCA Team and Pairs National Championships as sophomores Sara Hughes and Kelly Claes made it three consecutive pairs' national titles for the program on Sunday in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Hughes and Claes cruised through the loaded field without dropping a set to join Hughes and Kirby Burnham, and Burnham and Stevi Robinson, in the history books.

In the quarterfinals, Hughes and Claes were forced to take out their own teammates, Sophie Bukovec and Alexa Strange, but all four Women of Troy earned All-American status. Hughes and Claes defeated Loyola Marymount's Betsi Metter and Sarah Sponcil in the final (21-12, 21-18).
