The No. 1 Women of Troy kept their hot streak alive with a weekend sweep thanks in large part to the ones they honored on Saturday. The team celebrated the contribution and leadership from its seniors Zoe Scandalis, Sabrina Santamaria, Gabriella DeSimone and Casey Reede at Senior Day on Saturday against Colorado.
The Senior Day victory marked the Women of Troy's 10th consecutive win as they remain undefeated in Pac-12 play. The special honorees of the day, seniors Santamaria and Scandalis, secured the doubles point for USC. In singles play, senior DeSimone went to town sweeping her opponent 6-0, 6-0 to give USC a quick 2-0 lead. The seniors finished the winning trend with Santamaria fighting back after dropping her first set and Scandalis winning in straight sets, ultimately leading the Trojans to a 7-0 victory.
Senior Day capped off a winning weekend for the number one team in the nation as USC also swept the Utah Utes 7-0 on Friday. The story of the season for the women's tennis team is the outstanding senior leadership combined with the fresh and energetic freshmen talent and this weekend proved that storyline to be true. USC began Friday by collecting the doubles point courtesy of wins from the senior/junior pair of Scandalis and Giuliana Olmos along with the freshman duo of Gabby Smith and Madison Westby. USC did not drop a set against the No. 59 ranked Utes with freshmen Smith and Xepoleas winning 6-0, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-2 respectively, followed by victories from Santamaria (6-3, 6-2), DeSimone (6-2, 6-4), Scandalis (6-3, 6-4) and Olmos (7-5, 6-1).
