No. 8 USC men's volleyball survived No. 6 BYU in five sets and now advances to the MPSF semifinals at No. 2 UC Irvine on Thursday (7:30 p.m.). In a playoff atmosphere, the Trojans closed out the Cougars 15-13 in the final set behind a match-high 21 kills from Alex Slaught as well as career-highs from freshman Larry Tuileta in kills (18) and digs (15).

While USC will be the underdog at Irvine, the Trojans are boosted by positive momentum, having won eight of their last nine matches, and a knack for stepping up in crunch time, sporting an 8-2 record in five-setters. Plus, USC defeated UCI on the road in five sets on January 23.
