USC track & field closed the indoor season with strong finishes at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, as the men tied for ninth and the women tied for 12th. In the bigger picture, the indoor campaign, which included a conference title for the Women of Troy, sets the stage for a big spring outdoors, starting this weekend at the Trojan Invitational.

Director of Track & Field Caryl Smith Gilbert has brought in some blue chip talent to reinvigorate both programs. During the indoor season, Andre De Grasse (pictured) and Ky Westbrook stood out among the sprinters, with De Grasse setting a new Canadian and USC record en route to the runner-up spot in the 200m, and Westbrook finishing second in the 60m as a freshman.
"Andre ran one of the best 200's I have ever witnessed," said Smith Gilbert about De Grasse, who passed Aaron Brown on both record lists. "He executed the race almost perfectly, but was a little tentative coming off the last bank in lane six. His school record performance was absolutely phenomenal and it's great that the new Canadian record stays in Trojan territory."
"Ky has always been a game-time performer," said Smith Gilbert, whose result drew comparisons to all-time greats Virginia Powell and Angela Williams. "Her second place, All-America finish in the 60m final was outstanding. I am really looking forward to watching her outdoors."
USC fans will get two chances to see the Trojans perform on home soil this season, starting this Friday and Saturday at the Trojan Invitational. On May 2-3, USC will host the annual Dual Meet with UCLA.
