No. 11 USC men's swimming and diving was carried to its first Pac-12 title since 1979 on the broad shoulders of senior Cristian Quintero, who became the first conference swimmer ever to win the 100y, 200y and 500y free in the same meet. Quintero, who was unsurprisingly named the Pac-12 Swimmer of the Meet, also contributed to relay wins in the 400y free relay, 400y medley relay and the 800y free relay.
"I can't speak highly enough about the performance of Cristian Quintero," said USC head coach Dave Salo. "It stands on its own. But his quiet leadership certainly pushed the envelope of our performances by so many others."

As Salo points out, Quintero was not alone in the weekend's heroics as sophomore Steven Stumph won the 200y breast in school record-setting time. Fellow sophomores Reed Malone, Mike Domagala, Santo Candorelli and Dylan Carter along with freshman Ralf Tribuntsov were instrumental to the championship point tally.
USC squeaked out the victory by nine points over Stanford, the closest conference championship meet since 1999. The Trojans have all kinds of momentum now heading into the NCAA Championships, March 26-28 in Iowa City, Iowa.
