At USC, Seau was the original No. 55 making the number a part of Trojan lore for linebackers. He earned All-American First Team and Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year honors in 1989.
After San Diego selected him 5th overall in 1990, Seau rewarded the Chargers with 13 tremendous seasons, including the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year in 1992, becoming one of the franchise's most iconic players. He finished his career after 20 seasons, including 12 Pro Bowl appearances and 8 All-Pro campaigns, with 1,849 tackles, 56.5 sacks and 18 interceptions.
Seau died on May 2, 2012, at the age of 43.
