The Trojans were simply outmanned by a Top 10 team with a massive front court and an experienced roster. Arizona made 47.7% of its shots and collected 22 offensive rebounds as part of a dominant offensive display. Defensively, the Wildcats held USC to 31.6% from the field and forced 16 turnovers. "They really dominated us in the lane," said head coach Andy Enfield. "We need to figure out what to do from a physicality standpoint."
Not All Bad
While a 30-point loss is nothing to celebrate, Malik Martin and Julian Jacobs provided a pair of silver linings. Martin scored a career-high 15 points to go with 6 rebounds in just 21 minutes. Jacobs, who handled the point guard duties again with Jordan McLaughlin out, filled up the box score with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists with only one turnover. "I thought Malik gave us a solid game. He was active," Enfield said about Martin. "Julian Jacobs was aggressive, but to beat a team like Arizona, we need five guys on the same page."
Short Memories
USC was carrying some momentum into this game after beating Oregon State, so the Trojans need to erase this loss from their memory with more winnable games on the future schedule starting Sunday at Arizona State (5:30 p.m. PT tip). "That's part of college basketball. We need to be resilient, and we've shown that," said Enfield referring to the tough losses during conference play. "We've come back every game, the next game, and played well."
