Buzzer Blues
If the Trojans did not have bad luck, they'd have no luck at all. They had several opportunities down the stretch to seal the victory that would end their losing streak, but after failing to make clutch free throws, committing costly turnovers and missing out on key defensive rebounds in the final two minutes, USC put the game in the hands of destiny and Tyrone Wallace, both of whom had the last laugh at the expense of the Trojans.
Mac Is Back
Point guard Jordan McLaughlin had seemingly hit the freshman wall in the past three games, but he pushed through it Thursday night scoring a game-high 20 points on 7/9 shooting. He played with a controlled tempo throughout finding his spots on the floor and coolly knocked down 3/5 from three-point distance. While he missed an important late free throw, the overall performance was huge for his confidence.
Jekyll and Hyde
Head coach Andy Enfield simply put the difference on "shotmaking" when asked how the Trojans could look listless in the first half scoring 26 points on 37.9% shooting and then blitz out of halftime making 65.4% in the final 20 minutes. USC won the second half 43-35, and outside of a few careless turnovers, looked like a dynamic offensive team. SG Katin Reinhardt (16 points on 8/13 shooting) was efficient including drilling a potential game-winning jumper in the final seconds. PF Darion Clark and SG Julian Jacobs were tremendously active on both ends of the floor.
Here are the highlights ending in Wallace's buzzer-beater, which made SportsCenter's Top Play of the night:
