USC and Wisconsin last squared off in the 1963 Rose Bowl, an all-time classic, featuring the first battle between the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in a bowl game. While the Trojans ultimately prevailed, 42-37, they had to ward off a furious fourth quarter rally by the Badgers.

Both quarterbacks, USC's Pete Beathard and Wisconsin's Ron Vander Kelen, split Rose Bowl MVP honors. The game set 11 Rose Bowl records, including 79 total points scored, which stood until 1991.
With the win, the Trojans claimed the 1962 national championship, USC's first under head coach John McKay.
