With one game remaining in the regular season, the USC women's soccer team is sitting in prime and permanent position at second in the Pac-12 conference. The standing is the highest for the team since 2007, when the Trojans went on to win the National Championship, but this year's squad has a ways to go to accomplish that feat once again.
"We've played a tough schedule and I think we've done well with 13 wins to date. I think we've shown our ability to play with the best and now we're starting to find our form," said head coach Keidane McAlpine in his weekly women's soccer update. "We're definitely headed in the right direction. I like the makeup and our chemistry moving forward."
Leading USC on the offensive side of the ball this year is Morgan Andrews and Sydney Johnson who both have five goals apiece. The duo have played a major role in the Trojans' high-powered offense through the latter half of the season in which the team outshot opponents 325-169. On the other end of the pitch, goalkeeper Sammy Jo Prudhomme has 60 saves this year and only allowed 11 goals.
The Trojans round out the season against a tough UCLA team this Friday and will then await placement in the NCAA Tournament on Monday's NCAA Selection Show. The Women of Troy's crosstown showdown is set for 6 p.m. in Westwood. The game will be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks.
