Hoey Leads Trojans To Open U.S. Collegiate

Junior Rico Hoey fired a 2-under 70 to tie for seventh individually and lead the No. 7 USC men's golf team on the first day of the U.S. Collegiate Championship at The Golf Club of Georgia's Lakeside Course in Alpaharetta, Ga., on Friday (Oct. 16).
The Trojans combined for a 10-over 298 to tie for 14th after the opening round, 16 back of first place Florida State's 6-under 282.
Hoey, who like sophomore Sean Crocker entered the event with a pair of top 20 finishes this year, was even on the opening back 9 and 2-under coming home with four birdies on the day. He is four back of first.
Sophomore Jonah Texeira is tied for 36th at 1-over 73 after his two-birdie day while Crocker is tied for 67th at 5-over 77. Senior Andrew Levitt and freshman Justin Suh are tied for 76th at 6-over 78.
Action resumes Saturday. USC will tee off with Oklahoma and Wake Forest beginning at 8 a.m. ET.
