The USC women's soccer team has scored nine goals in its last three games, an exciting offensive surge that has propelled the Trojans to the second spot in the Pac-12 Conference. According to head coach Keidane McAlpine, much of the recent scoring success can be attributed to a slight shift in the formation up front. Senior attacker Jamie Fink recently moved more central, a change that has allowed Fink to feel more comfortable and thereby enabled players around her to be in even better positions to make plays.
With five games remaining on the schedule, the Women of Troy still have work to do. They key for the Trojans as they set their sights on postseason play is to continue the steady improvement that they've displayed all season.
"I still think we have to be more efficient. We created and got to some really great positions, but we still have to be more efficient in the final third," said the head coach in his weekly recap. "As much as we're playing well and feeling good about ourselves, the challenge is to always strive to be better than we are today."
The next test for the Trojans comes this weekend against Utah and Colorado. On Friday, USC hosts the Utes at 2 p.m. at McAlister Field before Sunday's Senior Day game against Colorado (11 a.m.).
