Ex-USC All-American Linebacker Scott Ross Dies

Former USC All-American inside linebacker Scott Ross, a member of three Trojan Rose Bowl teams, died on Sunday (Sept. 21) of heart failure in Lafayette, La. He was 45.
Ross was a 3-time All-Pac-10 first teamer (1988-90), winning All-American first team acclaim as a senior in 1990 when he was named USC's team MVP, Most Inspirational Player and Defensive Player of the Year.
He played in the 1988, 1989 and 1990 Rose Bowls (USC beat Michigan in the 1990 Rose Bowl), as well as the 1990 John Hancock Bowl. He participated in the East-West Shrine Game and Hula Bowl following his 1990 senior season.
He then played for the New Orleans Saints in 1991.
Ross returned to USC in 1996 to complete work on his bachelor's degree. He then worked in the sales and marketing industry.
He led El Toro (Calif.) High to the 1986 CIF Southern Conference championship.
He is survived by his daughter, Caroline, 13, his parents, Marshall and Janie, and his brother, Ltc. Jason Ross.
A service will be held this Saturday (Sept. 27) at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Church in Plantersville, Tex. (8227 County Road 205, Plantersville, TX 77363, 936-894-2223).
Also, a Southern California service is scheduled for Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif. (1 Saddleback Pkwy, Lake Forest, CA 92630, 949-609-8000).
