There is one spot left in the second round of the French Open, and Steve Johnson is willing to fight for it. The four-time NCAA champion is 0-5 all-time in five-set matches, but he pulled himself out of a two sets to love hole to force a fifth at Roland Garros when darkness suspended the comeback.
Johnson, who leads 4-6, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (3), 6-3, 3-1, will be second on the court Wednesday morning in Paris looking to put away French qualifier Laurent Lokoli. Johnson is three holds away from tallying his first ever French Open main draw victory and his first Grand Slam win outside of the U.S. Open.
The 23-year-old is playing the best tennis of his professional career ranked No. 64 in the world, which makes him the second best American behind No. 11 John Isner.
