- After a scary fall, WR Marqise Lee left practice to undergo further medical review. Lane Kiffin had nothing definitive to report on his All-American.
-
In other injury news, both starting offensive tackles, Aundrey Walker and Kevin Graf, missed practice. Walker is in for a fight for his spot when he comes back with Chad Wheeler. Kiffin has been impressed by Wheeler who stands 6-foot-7 and has bulked up to 275 pounds. "What he's showing, I definitely think he can [compete for a starting job]."
- Redshirt freshman Zach Banner played in Graf's spot today. While he is unlikely to usurp a three-year starter, Kiffin called Banner "one of the more improved players on our roster."
- Freshman S Su'a Cravens remains sidelined with an undisclosed injury. Freshman RB Justin Davis is now out as well, but Silas Redd and Tre Madden both practiced with non-contact jerseys on.
- Buck Allen is the only fully healthy scholarship running back, and he took advantage of an opportunity today busting a long run.
- Max Wittek threw an unlucky interception hitting Kevon Seymour who was down on the turf. Wittek came back to make a nice deep throw over the middle to TE Xavier Grimble.
- Cody Kessler's best pass was reeled in by walk-on WR Robby Kolanz. Without Lee, the walk-on wide receivers are getting plenty of action, and Kessler threw a perfect deep ball to No. 49 over Josh Shaw's head.
- After reviewing the scrimmage film, Lane Kiffin was pleased with his quarterbacks' clean performances. "All three of the guys took care of the ball well," he said. "If we were able to perform the way we did yesterday in a real game, we'd win a lot of games that way."
- On the flip side, Kiffin wants to see the defense force more turnovers. The pass rush that has dominated camp came out flat yesterday. "We came out pretty slow. I don't know what it was. We were choking a little bit," said DL Leonard Williams. "Once everything started flowing, it was really good. Everyone started playing faster."
- After a Freshman All-American campaign, Leonard Williams is facing high expectations as a sophomore. "The coaches are expecting me to be more of a leader this year," he said. "I feel like I have gotten a lot stronger and a lot faster, but I have stayed the same weight."
- Four USC quarterbacks are in NFL preseason action tonight including Matt Barkley's debut which made the big screen at the John McKay Center.
- Here is Kiffin who was asked several questions about Lee...
