Sabrina Santamaria took home a silver medal Tuesday morning at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia. The USC sophomore trailed early to Japan's Sachie Ishizu, but put on an impressive rally in the second set to close the gap at the end.
Ultimately, Ishizu was victorious, winning 6-2, 7-5 and taking home the first women's singles gold for Japan since 1995. Santamaria's silver medal is the best result by a U.S. female since 1995.

Heading into the gold medal match, Santamaria had only lost one set in her first six matches, defeating five opponents ranked in the world's top 900.
