Former Trojan All-American and PGA major winner Craig Stadler, now 60, won his first event on the Champions Tour in eight years on Sunday (June 23), claiming the Encompass Championship at the North Shore C.C. in Glenview, Ill.
The "Walrus" last won on the tour in 2004 and the eight-year, nine-month stretch between victories is the longest gap in the tour's history. Stadler had played in 170 events since his last Champions Tour victory but hung on to beat Fred Couples by one stroke for the championship this weekend.
