"I want to thank everyone I worked with at USC the past 12 years," said Cantu. "It was a great experience. Â We had some memorable moments. I look forward to following the future success of the program."
Among the memorable moments, Cantu led the Trojans to victories over UCLA and Arizona during his stint as the interim head coach. He also earned a reputation as an ace recruiter helping to bring in the likes of NBA stalwarts Nick Young, DeMar DeRozan, Taj Gibson and Nikola Vucevic.
Before introducing new coach Andy Enfield, athletic director Pat Haden thanked Cantu and last year's assistants for their selfless work taking over the program midseason and making it competitive again.
