Swann was a team captain and MVP of the 1973 team, which was sandwiched between John McKay national championships in 1972 and 1974. The Trojans finished eighth nationally that year losing the Rose Bowl to Ohio State.
In a modern twist of coincidence, Swann went to Serra High School albeit in a different city (San Mateo) than Robert Woods, Marqise Lee and George Farmer (Gardena).
