Clarence Davis gets lost in the shuffle when listing the great tailbacks of the John McKay era, but he is one of the most underrated runners in USC football history.Â
He did not win a Heisman like Mike Garrett, O.J. Simpson, Charles White or Marcus Allen. He is not the famed Notre Dame slayer like Anthony Davis. But in his two-year Trojan career, Davis was a 1969 All-American and racked up enough yards (2,323) to sit in the top 15 all-time at Troy.
The two-time All-Pac-8 selection was drafted by the Los Angeles Raiders for which he earned a Super Bowl ring during an eight-year pro career. Since his football days ended, he has dedicated his time and effort to the Houston school district.
