USC To Compete At Beach Classic In Norwalk

The USC men's and women's track and field team will be competing this weekend at the Beach Classic hosted by Long Beach State at Cerritos College in Norwalk, Calif. The hammer throw competition will be held today (March 2) beginning at 11 a.m. and the rest of the meet will be held on Saturday, March 3 beginning at 9 a.m.
The early season meets give the athletes a chance to get some work in and work on improving, as the competition is still not at the strongest as many teams are heavily involved in the indoor season still.
"One of the main appeals of this meet is the facility itself," said USC Director of Track and Field Ron Allice. Cerritos is a very good facility and is the site of many championships like the CIF and the junior college finals. Any time you get a chance to compete on facilities like that, you try and take advantage of it."
Among the key performers in action at the Beach Classic for the women's team are sophomore Loudia Laarman (200m), sophomore Jessica Davis (400m), freshman Erica Capellino (1500m), freshman Melia Cox (100m HH, 400m IH), freshman Oluwakemi Olonade (triple jump), freshman Alexandra Collatz (discus) and the entire strong group of women's hammer throwers.
Some of the top Trojan males entered are sophomore Aaron Brown (100m), junior Terence Abram (100m), freshman Jovonte Slater (100m, long jump), freshman Davonte Stewart (100m), senior Joey Hughes (200m), sophomore Josh Mance (200m), senior Scott DeYoung (400m), redshirt senior Bryshon Nellum (400m), freshman Myles Andrews (800m), senior Blake Shaw (800m), freshman Allen Williams (110m HH, triple jump), freshman Sam Barkely (110m HH, 400m IH), senior Duane Walker (400m IH), junior Reggie Wyatt (400m IH), freshman Marqise Lee (long jump), sophomore Viktor Fajoyomi (long jump, triple jump), sophomore Nickell Robey (long jump) and senior Tony Burnett (triple jump). In addition, the USC "Football 400m Relay team of redshirt freshman D.J. Morgan, Robey, Lee and Burnett which ran 41.05 last week is scheduled to compete as a team again.
In addition, a small group of female athletes will compete indoors at the Arkansas Last Chance Meet in Little Rock, Ark. Junior Aareon Payne is entered in the 200m dash and senior Dalilah Muhammad is scheduled to run the 60m hurdles race. Also, Muhammad, sophomore Jenna Puterbaugh, freshman Vanessa Jones and freshman Akawkaw Ndipagbor will team up in the 4x400m relay race.
