USC alum Barry Zito earned a victory last night in Game 1 of the World Series by pitching 5.2 innings and giving up just one run to the Tigers. In the process, he beat Justin Verlander and picked up an RBI single off the 2011 MVP.

Coincidentally, Reyes also defeated the Tigers and Verlander in Game 1 of the 2006 World Series.
