
Cardinal Team Claims Intrasquad, 275-263

The USC men's and women swimming and diving teams kicked off the 2011-2012 season with their annual Cardinal and Gold exhibition intrasquad, which the Cardinal team won, 275-263, on Friday (Sept. 16) at McDonald's Swim Stadium.
Multiple winners for the Cardinal included junior Yumi So, who claimed both the 25y and 75y back, sophomores Chase Bloch (25y fly and 75y fly) and Dimitri Colupaev (25y breast and 100y IM), and junior Alex Lendrum, who won the same events as well as the 300y IM.
The Gold was led by senior Katinka Hosszu, who won the 75y fly and the 300y IM, sophomore Kasey Carlson, who won the 75y free and 25y breast, and sophomore Vladimir Morozov, who won the 75y free and the 75y breast.
Other individual winners for the women included Kate Shumway (25y free), Haley Anderson (300y free), Ania Kowalczyk (75y breast), Christel Simms (25y fly), Stina Gardell (100y IM) and Victoria Ishimatsu (1-meter diving).
Other winners for the men included Jeff Daniels (25y free), Chad Bobrosky (300y free) and Jordan Gear (1-meter diving).
The Cardinal clinched the victory with a women's 300y free relay win by Simms, So, Anderson and Gardell. The Gold responded with a win on the men's side to keep the final score close as Morozov, Michael Godbe, Jack Wagner and Daniels edged the Cardinal, 2:11.69 to 2:11.81.
The men's team opens the season on Oct. 22 by hosting Cal State Bakersfield at noon while the women open on the road at Washington State on Oct. 20-21.
