
Anderson Wins Silver At World University Games

USC junior Haley Anderson won a silver medal in the 800-meter freestyle while recent graduate Lyndsay DePaul reached the final of the 50-meter butterfly on the first day of action at the 2011 World University Games on Sunday (Aug. 14) in Shenzhen, China.
Anderson earned silver in the 800m free with a swim of 8:27.11. She was edged by New Zealand's Lauren Boyle, who came on strong at the race's end to win in 8:26.30. Spain's Melania Costa Schmid was a distant third (8:33.66).
DePaul finished fifth in the 50m fly in 26.81, 0.83 out of first. DePaul will also race in the 100m fly on Wednesday while Anderson will compete in the 1500m free on Thursday.
