USC baseball trails only Arizona State (99) in the race to 100 big leaguers from the same alma mater. The Trojans could hit the century mark this season with Tommy Milone (Nationals), Brad Boxberger (Reds) and Grant Green (A's) all on the precipice of a call-up.
Milone was a AAA All-Star this season for the Syracuse Chiefs. Boxberger was moved up from AA to AAA after pitching to a 1.31 ERA through his first 30 games. Green was the MVP of the Futures Game and has rocketed up the organizational ladder in just two years.
Major league baseball allows the rosters to expand from 25 to 40 starting September 1, so if the ex-Trojans don't get the call in the next six weeks, they could get their opportunity in the final month.
Cook joins former Trojan Ian Kennedy on the D'Backs pitching staff.
