Sophomore Martin Trainer is tied for seventh and freshman Jeffrey Kang is tied for 14th to lead the No. 25 USC men's golf team during the first day of the 65th annual Western Intercollegiate on Saturday (April 16) in San Jose, Calif.
Only one of 15 teams completed the scheduled 36 holes on Saturday and action will resume where teams left off Sunday at 8 a.m. before the final round begins.
USC stands at 20-over, 22 strokes out of first, tied for sixth with California. Like at the upcoming Pac-10 Championships, six players play in the event with five scores counting.
Trainer is 1-under overall after an opening round of par 70 and 16 holes at 1-under in the second round. Kang was 3-over in the first round but is 1-under through 13 holes in the second with just one bogey.
Sophomore Sam Smith is tied for 25th at 4-over while junior Steve Lim is tied for 34th at 6-over. Sophomore T.J. Vogel is tied for 58th (+9) while freshman Ramsey Sahyoun is tied for 73rd (+13).
