Catching the Greats
Lane Kiffin made a statement last year by taking the #1 out of circulation until a wide receiver fit the mold and earned the digit. While Robert Woods had that kind of impact, he is more of a Steve Smith type, so he'll be donning #2 going forward (he wore #13 as a freshman). There still is no #1 on offense or defense.
New QBs
Freshman signal-caller Cody Kessler will take over Mark Sanchez's #6 jersey, while Max Wittek will wear the now vacant #13.
Position Change
With a deep group returning at safety, #18 Dion Bailey is now listed as a linebacker. The coaches hope he can inject some more speed into the unit. The redshirt freshman is currently listed at 6'1", 195 lbs., so he will likely add some more bulk if the switch becomes permanent.
Primetime
Florida native Nickell Robey may be too young to have seen Deion Sanders star at Florida State, but he'll rock his famed NFL #21 in 2011.
Lucky Number
After an injury plagued freshman year, Kyle Prater was looking forward to a big spring, but then he broke his foot during offseason workouts. Maybe with a change in luck in mind, he's switching from #85 to #21.
Fullback U
Newcomer Soma Vainuku is expected to fill Stanley Havili's shoes this season, so he will wear #31 like his predecessor.
More Notable Changes
DB Demetrius Wright (#14 to #24), LB Hayes Pullard (#35 to #10), DT George Uko (#95 to #90) and WR Markeith Ambles (#8 to #84).
Other Newcomers
PK Andre Heidari (#48), LB Dallas Kelley (#52), LS Peter McBride (#61), OT David Garness (#73) and OT/OG Jeremy Galten (#74).
